Association News David Allan, vice president of development for Canada-based Apple Self Storage, has been elected to the Canadian Self Storage Association Board of Directors. He'll join six others who were re-elected during proceedings. They are Chris Killi, Real Storage Group; Robert Madsen, U-Lock Mini Storage Group; Sue Margeson, Big Bear Self Storage; Troy McLellan, Public Storage; Tami Reilly, Burnaby Self Storage; and Steven Scott, Access Self Storage/StorageVault. The Nevada Self Storage Association is now offering enhanced benefts to its chapter membership. New additions to member advantages include state- specifc legal expertise, an electronic self-storage lease and a redesigned association website. VendorWorks Self-Storage Data & Mapping Solutions, a cloud-based self-storage tracking service launched last year by marketing company Pac-Comm, has expanded its offering to cover all 33,000 U.S. ZIP codes. The service gives subscribers access to a database that tracks self-storage supply, facility openings, acquisitions and partnerships. Union Realtime has partnered with The William Warren Group, a privately held real estate company that operates the StorQuest Self Storage brand, to include WWG development projects in its Radius Location Intelligence platform. The online tool tracks market demographics, occupancy and rental rates in addition to new and existing self-storage supply. Union Realtime also reported the status of projects in the pipeline through the frst half of 2018. The summary includes infographics that indicate the top 10 U.S. regions for storage development, new-facility openings and net-rentable-square-feet comparables back to 2016. PTI Security Systems has partnered with Zapt, an online platform that helps consumers and businesses coordinate, schedule and purchase moving, relocation and delivery services. Storage operators will be able to integrate Zapt's real-time pricing and booking engine with their websites and mobile applications. In return, they'll receive a percentage of revenue each time someone books a move through the Zapt mobile app that originates at their facilities or via any of the storage operator's digital touch points. MiniCo Insurance Agency LLC has published a list of best practices for facility operators who offer tenant insurance. It addresses regulatory requirements, program selection, carrier rating, lease agreement, manager training and customer communication. Available on the company website, the list will be updated to refect future enhancements and revisions. Surprising Sponsorships Stor-Age Property REIT, which operates self-storage facilities in South Africa and the United Kingdom, sponsored the 40th annual Stor-Age Pirates 10K run through the historic Johannesburg suburbs of Westcliff, Gauteng, South Africa, in August. The event was expected to draw as many as 3,000 participants between the 10-kilometer run and walk events. Company volunteers managed two water stations to keep runners hydrated. SmartStop Asset Management has signed on to sponsor Canada-based junior ice-hockey team Mississauga Steelheads for the 2018-2019 Ontario Hockey League season, which runs through March 17. The company has sponsored the team for the past fve seasons. 24-7 Self Storage Ltd. of King's Lynn, England, is sponsoring 12-year-old kart racer Aaron Alexander as he competes in four Honda 200 Cadet Kart Championships. Per the terms of the sponsorship, the storage operator will get its logo on Alexander's vehicle, some race-day hospitality and a signed, framed photo of the racer. October 2018 I ISS 7
