2018 BEST OF BUSINESS Why do you love the self-storage industry? We've been involved in the self-storage industry for many years and a few of the things we love about the industry are that it's not only challenging, it serves as an extremely beneficial use. Communities across the U.S. are increasingly in need of this service. What's the most pressing challenge facing your business this year, and how are you conquering it? Among the most pressing challenges has been the lack of available sites, along with some cities placing a ban on self-storage projects entirely. This has been driving the industry to newer locations, forcing developers to think outside the box. We're conquering this issue by embracing entitlement-phase projects and applying for various use permits and/or rezoning when necessary. We've also been able to implement various visual distinctions to some self-storage facilities when needed, such as making them blend into residential districts through clever design. In one instance, the city mandated we implement retail space on the first floor and make the exterior look like an apartment complex. We turned the building into something of beauty. What's the best thing to happen to your company since last year? Being voted Best Architectural Services firm for the 2018 Best of Business Awards by Inside Self-Storage readers. We're honored to have been chosen and proud that our focus on client satisfaction is reflected in these votes. Please give us a sneak peek into a new product or service you're releasing in 2019. In 2019, we'll obtain the last eight state licensures/registrations needed to be licensed across all 50 states. This will allow us to offer architectural services to any client across the country. Tell us a company secret. "A secret between more than one is no longer a secret." However, if we're being honest, our company secret is legacy knowledge. We've been in business for more than 42 years. The vast amount of information gained along the way has been a tremendous help and really makes the difference in project success. If you could invite anyone, from modern times or history, to coach your staff, who would it be and why? It would have to be Steve Jobs because he was a free thinker and creative genius. He was extremely innovative in his approach to solving what he felt was a problem. If your company had a mascot, what would it be and why? Our mascot would be a building permit because it's what all clients want, and we proudly deliver every time. If President Trump were to write a Tweet about your business, what would it say?
