Pre-Opening Buzz Many operators start their marketing campaigns weeks or even months before opening a new facility. In the thread "Getting Your Name Out There" in the Marketing forum, members are sharing strategies for building excitement about a property before opening day. Here's a sample of ideas: • Host a community day and invite local businesses to give away stuff. Grill hot dogs and offer free water. • Conduct door-to-door marketing to every business in the area, handing out special-offer cards. • Do some co-marketing with related business such as realtors, moving companies, apartments and any place that rents trucks. • Start with a strong Web-marketing campaign and build up your presence on Google. • Put up grand-opening signs near major traffcways. • Contact the local mayor and media and let them know you're holding a grand opening. • Make a business page on social media. Strangest Items Left Behind Three stuffed caribou. Singing fish plaques. Human poop. You never know what might be left behind when a tenant vacates a unit. In this entertaining thread of the same name in the "General Storage Chat" forum, read about the bizarre (and sometimes disturbing) items members have discovered and add your own weird finds. Some members have posted photos! Have an interesting picture or story to share? Post it in the "Day-to-Day" or "Tales From the Trenches" forums.
