Operators in the Spotlight Red Dot Storage was recently named on two "Best Company" lists from Comparably, which reports on company cultures and market compensation as contributed by real employees. The self-storage operator ranked No. 42 on the "Best Company Culture" list under the small-companies category and No. 21 on the "Best Companies for Women" list under small- to mid-sized companies. Limerick Self Storage of Limerick, Ireland, has created a video in tribute to Dolores O'Riordan, the local-born lead singer of Irish band The Cranberries. The town's "most beloved daughter" died last year. Filmed at the storage facility and viewable on the company's Facebook page, the video includes appearances by approximately 60 local musicians. Valley Storage Co., which operates 28 self-storage facilities in six eastern states, is opening its properties to Maryland law-enforcement off cials for K-9 training. State and city off cers will use self-storage facilities as well as vacant land, rental off ces and warehouses for the dog training. The initiative was spearheaded by company president Todd Snook The William Warren Group, which operates the StorQuest Self Storage brand, has forgiven the debt of a Palm Springs, Calif., family after being contacted by a local news station. Layia Williams, who owed $1,400 in delinquent rent that she couldn't pay, contacted News Channel 3 for help before her unit went up for auction. Williams' son has cerebral palsy, and the storage unit is used to keep his medical equipment. Manhattan Mini Storage, which operates 17 facilities throughout New York City, has launched a valet-storage offering called "Full Service Plus." Customers can use the offering to have their packed belongings picked up and taken to one of three company locations or arrange for return delivery or in-store pickup. Tenants can choose between the Extra Small Plan (64 cubic feet) for $99 per month or the Small Plan (120 cubic feet) for $159 per month. Customers are required to sign a 90-day lease. Compass Self Storage offered a rent postponement in January to tenants affected by the partial government shutdown. The deferment was available to government workers whose pay had been suspended while the shutdown was in effect. Tenants won't accrue late fees as part of the special program. NEWS Keeping It Green A "net-zero energy" self-storage facility managed by CubeSmart in Austin, Texas, received LEED Platinum Certifi cation earlier this year. The property features a solar-photovoltaic array; geothermal heating and cooling systems; geothermal wells; three rainwater towers; and a regenerative drive elevator, which generates electricity from elevator movement. Box Self Storage in Cincinnati, which opened in October, is doing its part to help the environment and local community by using materials and processes that consume less energy and produce less waste. By following guidelines by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, the company was careful to recycle as much as possible during demolition and construction. It also engages in ongoing eco-friendly practices, using low-f ush toilets, low-f ow sinks, eco-friendly cleaning products and more. StorageBlue LLC has joined the local Sponsor A Highway Program, which aims to reduce litter along freeways. The fee-based sponsorship includes signage with the company logo, and participants can sponsor one or multiple miles. StorageBlue purchased four. Tyson will be responsible for developing and executing HR strategy in support of the company's overall business plan and strategic direction. Jernigan Capital Inc. has added Randy Churchey and Rebecca Owen to the company's board of directors, which now includes eight members. The pair was also appointed to the board's Compensation Committee and Nominating and Governance Committee. FineView Marketing has hired Chuck Vion as chief marketing off cer. He'll be responsible for the company's overall marketing strategy, including implementation of tactical requests, and utilization and application of internal and external resources to serve company clients.
